Confidentiality

The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District is deeply committed to open communication, transparency, and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships with our families, staff, and community members. We strive to keep our community informed about district operations, safety protocols, and key decisions whenever possible.

However, there are circumstances in which the district is legally or ethically restricted from sharing specific details or additional information. These situation-dependent restrictions include, but are not limited to:

  • Student Privacy Rights: Federal and state laws—such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)—strictly protect student records and personal information. We cannot share details regarding individual student discipline, academic performance, special education status, or personal circumstances.

  • Personnel & Employment Matters: Confidentiality laws protect employee privacy, prohibiting the disclosure of individual personnel files, performance evaluations, or ongoing human resources investigations.

  • Ongoing Investigations & Safety Matters: In matters involving law enforcement, active legal proceedings, or sensitive safety inquiries, disclosing certain details could jeopardize an investigation or compromise safety.

We understand that a lack of specific details can sometimes lead to frustration or unanswered questions. Please be assured that when information is withheld or limited, it is done solely to fulfill our legal obligations and to uphold our highest duty of protecting the safety, rights, and privacy of our students and staff.

Thank you for your partnership, understanding, and continued support of our school community.
