English Learners

English Learners Program Description

English Learners services are provided in the Chippewa Falls Unified Area School District at all levels from Kindergarten through grade 12 by certified EL teachers. Halmstad Elementary School is the “Welcoming Center” for elementary-aged EL students. All elementary students who require EL services attend Halmstad.

All levels use the ACCESS language test for annual assessment of student achievement. Students are also included in the state and district assessments as appropriate with or without modifications. Teachers communicate progress and placement of students within the program. The teachers of each level work closely with other district staff members to provide a supportive learning environment.

Goals for the English Learners Program

1) To improve the academic performance of English Learners as demonstrated by classroom performance, district assessments, state mandated test scores, and ACCESS scores.

2) To align all curriculums used with English Learners with the Common Core Standards and District curriculum to maximize the learning opportunities for a challenging educational experience.
